August 19 My First Attempt at useing Windows Live Writer.
Well it's been a couple of days since this new Windows Live Writer has come out and I've read some of the problems that others have experienced and I must say as for me, so far, so good. I still get a sense that there are somethings that may need adjusting, such as this sentence. I want to start out on a new sentence and put it right under the one short sentence above and it wouldn't let me. For instance when you wanted to start a new sentence in the old blogging format, you just hit your return key and presto it skipped down a line so you could start your new sentence. The words above that start this paragraph, " I still get a sense..." was determined by this blog writer that I indeed must of meant that I wanted a new paragraph, when accually all I wanted to do is start my next sentence with "I still get a sense..." and instead started a new paragraph.
If you want to go back to the left edge it can only be done by hitting the enter key twice. Hit it three times and your font will once again revert back to some default setting just like the old blog writer. For instance: You can now see how it makes some change for you that I'm sure most of us have found disconserting for some time now. When I see someone's blog in this font and size, I can recognize it immediately that the persons writing has fallen off the set up for the writings above. Maybe one is to take this as a way to write a message in a footer, so as to write it smaller, for disclaimers and such. I would suspect that this might be one good reason for this to happen. Once in this mode it doesn't seem to want to go back to your original settings automatically in any shape or form unless you go back and change all of the settings again. Again, maybe this a standard setup, one that I'm just not to familiar with. A very nice touch would be a way to set your font and size so it stays that way after you've set it up. The font first used above I can't remember it's name. Now that I've been given more choices of fonts, it would pay I guess to memorize which one you pick the first time. At this point if you still wanted to type in this area, it again take the font back to some sort of default setting. Instead of the one above. If you hit enter again to restart your sentence on a line below the paragraph above it again jumps down, making you start another paragraph. Maybe this to is something that will be worked out, after all this is a Beta item and we're all the final testers of this program. Being able to insert a caption at the bottom of the map to the right was a nice touch, but it doesn't allow for variations once again in font or color and size. I found that sad. Do you see how it left the"I" above, more times than not I would feel a person would like it if you could determine how a sentence started and where. Now that I'm below the map it is allowing me to once again type all across the blog page. Let's see if it will allow me to go back to a larger font. Once again bear with me, I didn't memorize the previous font. It does have a wide variety of fonts, this is a great change since the previous old writer only gave us a dozen or so. I couldn't even count the number of fonts in this Live Writer's data base of fonts, and I wouldn't want to try. It does allow us to overwrite text onto our .gif files that we upload. You may recognize this one from another blog, Marge's background. The hyperlink to Marge's blog when you insert it into your blog brings up a whole nother window that's kind of like the old one, except it does give you the blogger choices as to whether if someone clicks on something you've highlighted as a link, you can checkmark a box that it will now open her link in another window. I don't know if that was a standard before or not. I suspect that it was, but now at least they give you the option. It is an option that I feel would be a good one for everyone to click in the checkmark. I'm not to crazy about this purple on this green. Are you? Let me change this. Reds lettering usaully pops out at you, and sets the font apart from the background. I've really noticed on some other blogs when they write poetry from going from blue to red. Blue seems to be deeper into the blog page while red just jumps off the page at you. August 10 How does one kick start a "Live" Spaces? How does one kick start a "Live" Spaces?
I really don't know the answer to this question.
I see this function of background color hasn't changed.
It still only colors the the text line and that's it.
How does one make a "Live" blog boot faster?
Maybe that's the point, if it takes so long to boot,
you won't be interested in posting anything about anybody.
Oh no, Bill you're not getting off that easy, even if you do
have enough to retire several lifetimes over.
I've gone to other folk's sites and there color for backgrounds
runs the whole area of there blogs,
not mine, never has. I've seen others who's blogs have
looked this dorky as well. Why would anyone want to post
text in this fashion?
I'm sure there's an easier way to change the entire background
of any blog, outside of this way that is demonstrated here,
I just haven't figured out where in there "Share Your Story" book
that anything was said about this dumb configuration of background
coloring. Anyway I've spoken of this before and no one was able to
answer this question, so it goes as said, no one knows.
On another matter, just what does a person have to dump from
there blog to have it boot faster? MSN Spaces? Now there's
an option I'd never thought of, if I just dump all the blogs, photos,
gadgets, etc., and just blog I wonder if this all would boot much faster.
Hell, why stop there, maybe even the Archives, what does anyone need
with old entries anyway. I think all in all I've figured one thing out, my
Hp 410A old computer just can't handle the new stuff coming down
the stream code wise, thus it's processor drags. The more items we put on
these blogs the more our older machine may have the tendency to blog down,
I mean bog down, of course.
Below is an e-mail that just came to me:
45,000 illegals are presently in the U.S. from terror sponsored nations.
I replied, huh so few? Who knew? If they'd of counted them before,
we wouldn't have wound up in Iraq. I suspect there are far more than
they've counted. Remember Ladies keep your mascara and lipstick at home
before boarding your next flight. Will there be a Truman oversight committee
after the war is over, as to just how was our money blundered? August 03 Another day, another change.Well how's things running in your world, live or dead?
Just another day, another change?
When it came to this new format of Windows Live, I don't think anyone one of us knew what to expect. If the team already knew what Live would look like, then why weren't we given more of a preview before thrusting it upon us?
I've asked a gazillion questions about all of these "gadgets." How are we to use them and what is it that they do? Where does one find these things, etc. Yes I know that there is a Windows Live.com out there in blog heaven, I even went there today, nothing. Couldn't get anything to do anything. I'm so in the dark about all of this that I don't even know that which I don't know.
After purchasing the book "Share your Story" about the old MSN Spaces, they went and changed everything, so as to just about make the book a great paper weight. Did I learn anything from the book, yes and I'm still learning. Was there much in the way of mentioning the fact in the book that is, that this was coming? I'll have to continue reading I guess. Another question comes to mind, will there now be another book about this Windows Live stuff. Will it make it to the presses before they decide to change everthing about our blogs again? These are some tough questions, that I'm not sure any answers exist.
I've even visited some Windows Live websites that had the actual recordings of a presentation that was given several weeks back as to why we would be subjected to this new Live version. Yes, I understand about the need to go into a night club with 3,000 people and try and make friends. I was once upon a time a bouncer. In this audio presentation they also presented charts as to why this is a tough way to make new friends in a night club scenerio. Where do you start? They went on to say that it is much easier to make friends with your friend's friends. I understand that.
I also understood there comment about the making of friends with like interest to the 3n degree. Now your getting into those folks who have gained the trust and respect of the others in your friends list and their friends. Understood. What I don't understand is why? Is this the new wave of "groups" or just so everyone of like mindedness could be also friends? I feel that maybe part of it and even that I understand. I often wonder if I should've taken the red pill? July 07 Read an interesting article about Web 2.0Yesterday, I was just surfing the internet when an interesting article was talking about the upcoming Web 2.0 and it's benifits for our future humanity. They questioned as to how TV was thought to bring about the new wave of educational programming, when instead it was soon deemed the great wasteland of the mind.
Well as I understood it, there was some thinking that this is just what will happen even if folks make the Web 2.0 will do as well. I find it always interesting as to someone's expectations when they bring about such changes, then expect something different than what reality warrants, as an outcome. July 05 Is there still hope for me yet? Won't somebody come play in my "Sandbox?"Recently I've been just helping folks figure out how they can insert highlighted word links for other sites into the comment portion of of other people's blogs.
That all being well and done and all, I still haven't figured out how to make this sandbox module that I've put into my blog, work.
I get the feeling it involves <HTML> coding and I'm not emmersed in that area yet.
So, until I get this module figured out I guess the research goes on. If you have suggestions as to what a person can do constructively with a "sandbox", I'm all ears. Thanks in advance. February 27 Have you ever been faced with making a decision?I've been in need of a new computer lately and I can't figure which one to go with. There are so many choices, with so many features out there. I try and do my research and ask others which one they would choose when it comes to whether or not to get another desk top or a notebook.
There are many pros and cons on each choice. It's all about choice isn't it? I'd like to hear from the people who work on all of the various models and ask them which computers, from which companies do you see less of on your bench? For some reason a lot of them can't think of a one that they don't eventually see at some time.
So I thought I'd see if any of you folks have a comment about any of the computer companies out there. What are the computers that you use day in and day out? Which ones hold up well in your opinion? What are the pros and cons of your decision making?
If you hate something about a company, you don't need to use any expletives, just keep to the facts as to why you like the things that you do. I've heard some of the horror stories, maybe you have one as well. Bad computer company service or software that didn't work, etc..
This isn't going to be a forum for bashing just any one company either, so let's all try and be fair in our asessments. We have all heard of the reasons why maybe your place of work won't purchase this or that kind of computer, those interest me as well.
It kind of goes without saying, if you don't take care of your customers needs, just how long as a company do you think you'll be around. Bad word of mouth, is just that, but people believe more times than not, what they hear. February 21 So when is it ok to load up someones comment section?Warning to everyone who was ever interested in why in your comment portion of your blog there is an overabundant of highlighted web sites, this is a way of Spamming your blog for various web site advertisers.
Don't click on any of them, I've learned the hard way, that not only will they take you to sites that really and most likely wouldn't interest you. Click your start menu and go to Run, click it and type "cookies" in the window. You will now notice that more than likely you've gotten 40 or so new ones to slow down your computer. In my opinion it's just another way of spying on you and where you go. Delete them all.
If you don't want this to happen to you, you've been warned.
P.S. - Yes, I do know that I can delete anyone's comments. February 07 How's everyone doing, after the changes? So, how's everyone doing after the MSN Spaces changes?
Me, I'm starting to see the wisdom of the changes that they've made, however, I can see why everyone was still writing bad comments. Is it possible that MSN could set up Alerts on Spaces so as to sort of give us all a heads up when there going to make these changes?
Sorry, just another Spaces arm chair Quarterback making genusis observations again, in my humble opinion. (IMHO) Well, now that the Super Bowl is over maybe the folks at MSN can go to work tomorrow and get serious once again about the rest of us and our needs, just another hopeful wish on my part, I guess.
Is there anyone besides myself that loves "The Red Green Show"? Everything that goes wrong with Spaces could be fixed with the handyman's secret weapon, ductape.
"Oh sure I know what your thinkin'....." It couldn't hurt, .....
much. January 30 Has anyone thought of a MSN Spacers Convention?I'm just thinking out loud here, but has anyone beside myself ever thought of what it would be like to go to a MSN Spacers Convention?
I feel this idea has merit, there's conventions for everything else, why not us? I know these kind of ideas start out slow and very unorganized but just think, what if. All of us at sometime or another have stated in each of our blogs that we'd like to meet each other and this may be one way of doing just that.
I pity the city that would except a bunch of peace loving individuals who just might congregate and change the world.
Seriously, wouldn't this be one kind of great meeting of minds?
Just how would one decide, when, where and what? The what part I just threw in there, but it needs to be considered as well. What would be discussed at this convention of blogging pioneers?
Well, I know I would attend a seminar on the making of the MSN Spacers Book Team, each one of it's authors could give a presentation on what one can do with a blog, etc..
Who amongst you wouldn't want to hear what thee ol' sage of Hack MSN would have to say during his presentation?
It could be at this future convention that we could all learn about each other even more with one on one get togethers. I've attended a seminar by Barbra Sher (maybe you've seen her on PBS) about making your wildest dreams come true, by inviting people over to have an "Idea Party." Through getting these people and throw in some friends, to come over to your home and have them bring a covered dish, you'll promise to throw in meat. (in more ways than one)
Then you excuse yourself, telling them maybe you have a overseas long distance phone call that you were on, and just let everyone else in and show them where the kitchen is and the serving ware is etc.. What would you think these former strangers and some friends would do? They would have to have some sort of interaction wouldn't they? Therin lies the idea, just what could the power of us bloggers have? In this virtual world of just asking about the what ifs of life.
You know someone at this very moment that could help you out with something, if only you could articulate it, right. Some of Barbra's seminars are held in a very large room, but she will break you up into groups of total strangers with some liers poker as it were. People will believe what you tell them sort of thing, you just have to make 'em whoppers with just a touch of what you would really like to be doing to live your true enthusiastic life.
Yes, I realize we could all do this right here in the comfort of our own homes and not even have to go to somewhere else, I mean after all isn't that why we do blogging. It can all be done in the safety of our own domains and we don't even have to leave the castle as it were. But what if? What if we became organized?
You maybe thinking that whole concept sounds kind of scary, to much like some church or something. Well aren't we already a church group of differing believers who have come together in this virtual world of our own making?
If you'll go to my photos of our Oct. Vacation '05, you'll see we went to meet just one fellow blogger, masterjediskippy a.k.a Scott and now we communicate on a nearly weekly if not sometimes nightly basis via Instant Messageing Conferenceing.
He is one person who is so full of life and what possibilities are out there for the fellow traveler in both the real world as well as the virtual world he's training for. He's got lots of ways to diagnose your computers problems and he enjoys talking about his expertise willingly. Presently he's telling us how we can meet some other fellow writers in New Zealand of all places, we've never even left the midwest. Talk about being scary!
If you've read this far and I know some of you just can't resist reading the whole conceptualization of an idea, there are those of you who could help the rest of us with all of the traveling arrangements. Right Susie J. and Scott? What I'm saying there are those amongst us that have the wear for all of what it would take to put such a convention together and you are motivational speakers as well as travelers who could help the rest of us poor souls who don't even know what it's like to go through an airport security checklist let alone all the ins and outs of boarding the post 9/11 planes of today.
That could be another seminar in and of itself. We've all experienced bullying, if not in school then even on the internet. I've known of people who as I've mentioned before have deleted there blogs because of this phenominon, how sad how very sad. It's to bad we didn't have the tools that maybe another speaker at this future convention could speak of.
I know there are a great number of you out there who have all of this former experience in you and I do realize the one way to get it all said, so as to tell your story as it were, is through the very writing of your story through blogging.
Personally, I would just like to meet you one and all face to face, but for now I guess, until we have this make believe convention, I'll just have to get to know you all,
one blog at a time.
After all isn't that what blooging is all about?
January 23 My Random Thoughts About Blogging, Part II.I'm always glad to make a new friend or if someone stops by and says howdy hey, that I reciprocate in kind, by visiting their blogs as well. There was one however this weekend that stopped by mine and when I went to hers it was a photo blog. Very nice pictures and all, but since she has no blog I couldn't comment on her fine choice of photos. Which is the way she may have wanted it. But if I could've commented, as an actor I would've asked her as to whether or not she had any aspirations to be a model/actor herself. This was not to be though; for all intensive purposes she may already be one or the other, due to the professional looking black and whites, I told you about. People never know who may discover them, that was always told to me when I was in radio for 20 years. "You never know who's listening" As an announcer I only recalled focusing on one person, keeping that one person in mind and smiling, because people unknowingly can hear a smile. So it is with blogging, smile while your writing it makes a difference in your demeanor as you blog. I know that is a hysterical idea, but try it, you'll be a lot happier in what you post on your blog; it shows that you have other people's feelings in mind when you write. I certainly can tell when someone is upset or down by there writing in their virtual journal; there's no getting around it. What then could possibly come about by blogging? Well, the one thing I noticed is I look up a whole lot more words! LOL But seriously, I would never have done this in the past, but here in this world it seems to matter as to whether or not you'll get things across to others, in an orderly train of thought. It says a lot about us as individuals. January 21 Blogging? What is it about our egos that make us want to give up blogging after say about 2 or 3 months?
There is a time at the begining that we just lose it, mentally and we wonder if anyone cares enough to even read what we have to say. Then there is the whole technology understanding thing with this new format software, it's not perfect so speak to start with.
I've always said it before that everyone has an opinion about various things and that is something one can express. This whole blogging thing is a daunting at first, I know that from first hand experience. You wonder if you'll say to much, or will you offend etc.
Then what should you write? Do you appeal to the masses with various gimmicks so as to pick up readership? Why do you have to do any of these things to begin with? There is far to much over stimulation of the masses as it is. It is after all your story, your thoughts, they just happen to be in online format for everyone to read, view, contemplate and comment on. Why get hung up on whether or not anyone likes what you've got to say?
It's a matter of intercourse, (no not the sexual kind, silly) the exchanging of ones own life experiences and maybe how you solved them or that you yourself are wondering about and does anyone else have the same feelings, experiences or am I my just plain weird. I'd rather think that I'm just as normal as everyone else and that no one even considers my problems to be as great as there own or even care as much as I do. Because no one does care as much about my problems as I feel they must. There is an old saying, "No one cares much about your problems or all of the wrong things you do, as much as you think they do." I know I've taken liberties with that quotation but I'm entitled, it's my blog after all.
I've come to the conclusion that blogging has become the new neighbors gathering around there fence post. They've equally have extended themselves in this getting together of the minds, what with the intercourse of conversation and what each individual brings to the gathering. This however could be the very thing that governments fear, just my thought on this though. Even in this repressive new society we must still not fear our neighbors as much as they would like us to think.
We are still alive and we need to interact as much as we all can, so as to not let them win and make us honker down in front of our mind numbing television sets and not reach out to others, least we have an idea.
To those of you who are just beginning, continue to get out of your shell and visit other sites and make polite comments or say nothing at all that you wouldn't say to the big biker neighbor who lives quietly at home, takes care of his property no load music blaring, etc. Just how would you feel walking up to him and telling him about all you feel is wrong with him and his kind? What do you feel would be his reaction after all he's felt he's been a good neighbor and now your just dumping all over his lawn, let alone to say the very least what your dog is doing. So don't be mad if he leaves a gallon of left over ham and beans for your dog to find, all the while you've got your dog penned up in the house all day. What do think you'll come home to? That's right you've got it, a dog who will want out very badly so as to go out into your own yard to do the rest of his final daily business, let alone the mess he's left in the middle of your living room floor, to clean up.
So blogging comments are like you extending your hand in a friendly gesture to one's neighbor, just make sure to wipe off the makings of your ham and beans concoction in your own kitchen. January 03 Everyday I Learn Not To Do That, Again. You know everday that I play around with this computer, I learn something I should've never bothered with. Take last night, installed on my computer is a set of "partitions", so as to allow you to run 2 operating systems. (OS
I found out the very hard way this is something that should only be done by someone who has a whole lot more technical experience than myself.
Let's start with a wonderful idea, why shouldn't I then be allowed to switch between the two OS? That was the premise, sounded sound enough, thus I open the other earlier Windows 2000 Pro. partition and found the VGA resolution setting not up to par. It wouldn't change after many attempts of trying to change my resolution settings window, everytime I'd click apply it would jump back to the 800 X 600 everytime.
I must preface this with a note here, on the computer was a working Windows XP doing everything just fine, thank-you, but I wanted to use the same OS as I have at my employment, the 2000 Pro. Was it to much to ask, that if you purchased a new copy of this OS you would be able to upgrade the OS on the other partition and then run that system. Right!
This was the start of a sound plan that turned into a nightmare or should I say a quagmire. I got into the F8 button, yeah real genius *I are thought*.
This dark screen world that kept asking me if I wanted HELP? Boy did I ever, it was a continuous maze of trying everything under this cloak of darkness. This is probably a world of simpletons, a club that obviously I was never invited to belong to or it became very apparent I had no right to membership. This must have been how Compaq 64 started, with a simple software to entertain us one and all at a time when we were very amused by these very simple games, as to compared to today's nightmares.
Panic overtook me as I now was in total deniel that I of course could've done anything wrong, but alas I was doing everything wrong. I now started to chalk this all up as a means to an end for experience. Yeah, I know, now I was justifying my actions by make-believeing that I was on track to a real education. If I could just figure this all out on my own, oh boy, NASA will ringing my phone off the hook any minute now.
Well, the phone of course never rang and I was left to my own nightmarish demise, to bang not only my head which was becoming more like wood every minute, but the keyboard, my desk, the monitor and on my knees I went to the Source of all handyman ingenuity, to no avail either. Now embarrassment takes over. But wait can it get worse? Yes it could, now that I'm totally "frusterated", the computer won't even shut off. OH YEAH, daddy knows where to pull the plug on this mess; pull I did. Off to bed I go to pass out from frustration gone a muck.
Is there a pleasant ending to all of this? One discovery was all of my e-mails that I had stored from all of you as well as my various accounts, gone. All the pictures that I'd uploaded to make this blog, caput, nada, don't even think about all the hard work you've done, it's history.
Stay tuned folks, Marge to the rescue as she comes to bed, she mentioned to me that she reinstalled her new XP program disk and your now on the net. Much to my surprise tonight as I write this, that this would be the case, have Marge we'll surf. I'll just have to stay out of the darkness, well maybe if I do I'll take along a flashlight next time with me, so as to read the holy XP book. I'll be sure to try again, but not anytime soon.
November 24 What about this blog Media Player? What about this blog Media Player?
I see that some people can get the player on there blog, but I ask, what do you do with it once you've gone through all of the steps and download it?
Seriously, every site I've gone to, they tell you to not put anything on your player that is copyrighted. What? So, all of the music that is out there is unavailable unless you create it yourself? Is that what I understand. You can use it to play your CD's at home, but not on the web. Ok, so can you use it for your own home movies? I would think if you created it, you can display it, right.
Well, not so fast there young studio maker, because I would believe if you didn't copyright your own production and someone copies it and claims it to be there's, your SOL. You will have to fight for the rights of your own work until the courthouse closes down. If you don't think so, just ask Merle Haggard, his great idea is to send a sample of his work to himself in a certified package, through the U.S. Mail and leave the tape in it's original packageing. Why? If you ever have to go to the aforementioned lovely courthouse in there town, you can have your attorney give your unopened package to the judge and ask him/her to listen/view the tape. Doesn't hurt to put the sheet music in the package as well as the script if it's a movie. Be sure to date it as well, it's a nice touch and it shows when you produced the copyrighted material.(as my own attorney has told me many times, I know just enough about the law to make me very dangerous) So, please consult with a entertainment law office, that handles such cases, for a full sheet of suggestions as to how to go about copyrighting your material. I'm told it doesn't hurt to belong to ASCAP http://www.ascap.com/index.html and/or the Screenwriter's Federation (SFA). http://www.screenwritersfederation.org/index.asp
I've found these two sites to be very informative.
I realize I may be going overboard here and in the final analyst, people wil continue to plagiarize your work anyway.
November 21 Have you ever felt, it's just all passing you by?Have you ever felt, that it's just all passing you by?What is it with all of these new technologies with the new MSN Live.com? I swear there are times, that you just sit back and wonder where is all of this going to take us now? I'm a little behind here, I just read something about this new beta Live.com stuff this morning and I'm thinking, what can this do to inhance my life?I'll just have to figure it out myself, I guess. My search for such understanding continues. |
